If the thought of Crumbed Camembert, Corn Nuggets or our Jalapeno Poppers have your mouth watering, you’re not alone.
Each month we sell more than 15,000 portions of our infamous Crumbed Camembert and Corn Nuggets and more than 8,000 of our Jalapeno Poppers. Our satisfying sides are made by Fleur Foods, a 100% Kiwi owned business based in sunny Tauranga. With a focus on catering for the vegans and vegetarians among us, their sides are chef-inspired and are made using the best ingredients, and often by hand.
Here at HELL, we’re big believers in supporting local and buying local - 82% of all of our ingredients come from New Zealand suppliers and producers.
Callum Davies, HELL’s Founder, first discovered the Fleur Foods’ Crumbed Camembert in the late ’90s, and the rest is history.
“I tried the Camembert and knew it was a winner, it's been a staple on the HELL menu ever since. When we wanted to put Jalapeno Poppers on the menu, Karllie from Fleur Foods came up with the best poppers that are now enjoyed by Kiwis everywhere,” says Callum Davies.
Just
like us, Fleur Foods is looking forward to the fires of HELL burning bright
again, so we checked in with Karllie Dickson, CEO, to see how they’re doing as
NZ responds to COVID-19.
What does supporting local mean to you and your team?
"Fleur Foods supports a number of local businesses, whether that’s purchasing ingredients, office supplies, or packaging, as well as the engineers, electricians and plumbers who ensure our factory runs smoothly.
For us, supporting local means caring about the community we live in, and how we can help our economy thrive. With the recent pandemic, it’s extremely important we support each other through these tough times. I believe local businesses deliver better, more personalised service, who in turn support the communities we live in."
Are you doing anything differently to make it through
lockdown?
"Although foods manufacturers could continue operating, we decided to close our factory during the lockdown to ensure our staff stay safe and we all fight this virus together. It has been a chance to do some product development in the home kitchen. So, watch this space for some new tasty delights coming out soon!"
When the gates of HELL open again, what are you most looking forward to?
"I am looking forward to our factory opening again and seeing the smiling faces of all our team, who produce some of the best sides for HELL.
We have a tight-knit, extremely hard-working team of fun people and I miss seeing them all. I am proud to be able to support these people in jobs particularly through these tough times. I also can't wait to hear how busy HELL is. I’m pretty confident we are all sick of cooking every night and will be happy to see those gates of HELL open again soon!"
